Responses to Ofcom's invitation to comment on measuring plurality across media
Published 05|01|2012
Ofcom invited comments on measuring media plurality (-1-), following a request to consider this area by the Secretary of State Jeremy Hunt (-2-). The Invitation to Comment closed on Friday 18th November 2011.
We received around 30 direct responses from organisations and individuals. The non-confidential responses are available to view and listed alphabetically from this page:

We also received 21 responses using our online web form. These have been combined into one document which can be viewed here:

We received a large number of responses (over 45,000) as part of online campaigns run by Avaaz and 38 Degrees. A summary of the approach that each organisation took, the number of responses they elicited and their broad themes can be viewed here:

We would like to express our thanks to all those that responded.
In terms of next steps, we are reflecting on the valuable input we have received as part of this process, and progressing the other areas of work that we set out in our Invitation to Comment.
We will be reporting our findings and recommendations to the Secretary of State. Ofcom is providing this advice independently of Government and our advice will therefore represent our views, taking into account our duties and the research and analysis we have underway. We will also provide our report to the Leveson Inquiry by June 2012 and publish it on our website.
