The International Communications Market 2009 (December)

From 2008, Ofcom will publish a full International Communications Market report (ICMR) every other year, providing in-depth analysis of how the UKs communications sector compares with those in other countries (UK, France, Italy, Germany, USA, Canada, Japan, Poland, Spain, Netherlands, Sweden, Ireland, Brazil, Russia, India and China).

The next ICMR will be published in Q4 2010. However, we have maintained our dataset in order to ensure that consumer and industry stakeholders have access to the latest data, and that we have continuous time series data to enable analysis in future reports.

The charts are organised as follows:

• Charts 1.1 to 1.4 provide summary data for communications services use in our comparator countries;
• Charts 2.1 to 2.41 detail the TV sector;
• Charts 3.1 to 3.13 detail the radio sector; and
• Charts 4.1 to 4.61 detail the telecoms sector.

Because of their different characteristics, data on Brazil, Russia, India and China (the BRIC nations) is separate from the data on the other countries. BRIC data is provided in the final charts in each section. This year, as in previous years, Ofcom has also analysed the prices of communications services in the UK and compared them against the prices available in other countries (France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the US).
