Television Access Services: First Quarter Report for 2009

Television Access Services: First Quarter Report for 2009

This is the first quarterly report for 2009 on the provision of access services (subtitling, signing and audio description) by broadcasters under the Code on Television Access Services during the first three months of 2009. An explanation of the obligations applying to broadcasters is given in the first quarterly report for 2005. An explanation of the changes to signing obligations on low audience channels can be found at: http://www.ofcom.org.uk/consult/condocs/signing/statement/

The first report for 2009 shows that, in general, broadcasters are exceeding their obligations for subtitling, audio description and for signing of programmes. Broadcasters who are not meeting their requirements have assured Ofcom that they are taking action to ensure fulfillment of their obligations over the course of the year. We will continue to monitor compliance. The next report is scheduled for publication on Ofcoms website in mid August.
