Telecoms numbering

This section provides information about UK Telephone Numbers, and allows Communications Providers to apply for Telephone Numbers from the National Numbering Scheme. It also provides information on Numbering policy such as Number Portability, and use of 070 Telephone Numbers. There is also a free e-mail subscription list for people interested in receiving notification of updates and to the Numbering web pages and documents. Ofcom publishes a list of UK area codes in the National Telephone Numbering Plan (PDF, 138Kb). This is a PDF document - to search using Adobe Reader press Ctrl + F and type in the number to look for matching locations.

The National Telephone Numbering Plan: reissued 19 December 2011

The National Telephone Numbering Plan was reissued on 19 December 2011 to include the modifications to definitions and terminology notified in Annex 3 of the Changes to General Conditions and Universal Service Conditions: Implementing the revised EU Framework statement published by Ofcom on 25 May 2011.

Errata

In the version of the National Telephone Numbering Plan published on 20 December 2010, there are a number of typographical errors, which are set out in the second column of the following table and which should have been listed using the correct spelling, which is set out in the third column:

We have included the correct Geographic Area names in Appendix A to the 19 December 2011 version of the National Telephone Numbering Plan on an indicative basis. We intend to secure an update to the National Telephone Numbering Plan of these Geographic Area names on a formal basis when we next consider any variations to the National Telephone Numbering Plan.
